Emmanuel Saez Wins John Bates Clark Medal

Emmanuel Saez The 2009 John Bates Clark Medal has been awarded to Emmanuel Saez, a professor of economics at the University of California at Berkeley.

Emmanuel Saez is an alumnus of the Ecole normale supérieure and DELTA, a research centre which foreshadowed PSE. He has worked with Thomas Piketty on the long-term trends in income inequality in the United States and other countries.

The John Bates Clark Medal has been awarded since 1947 to the American economist under the age of 40 who is judged to have made the most significant contribution to economic thought and knowledge. Previous winners include Milton Friedman, Joseph Stiglitz and Paul Krugman.
