Research at PSE

Award-winning Researchers and Prestigous Visitors.

Across the different research centres there are more than 120 researchers, publishing their work both in France and abroad, teaching courses in the Masters’ programmes approved by the Foundation, and supervising around 200 PhD students. Many of these researchers have been awarded prizes for their work: CNRS medals, AFPSE, Young Economist Award...
The Paris School of Economics also hosts, for very variable durations, renowned visiting Professors, both French and from abroad, who participate in the scientific life of the foundation, research and teaching. Their presence and the interactions that they have with PSE staff and students greatly enrich the Foundation’s activities and augment its international reputation.

Many Research Centres, One Foundation

The research at PSE covers the majority of the domains of Economics and the frontiers with other Social Sciences. PSE is recognised as having particular strengths in a number of domains (international trade, public policy, etc.), and the scientific contributions of PSE researchers are disseminated worldwide, notably in top international journals.
The richness of the PSE research environment comes from a number of general research centres, which have now been merged into the Paris School of Economics while still retaining some of their own specific research activities, and from the close relationship between the School and other research entities.

A Lively Research Environment

Scientific life at PSE is defined by a number of different activities:

  • Firm and Thematic Chairs. Financed by one or more firms, public-sector institutions, governmental and non-governmental organisations, and associations, these Chairs illustrate the close links between these entities and academic research. The Chairs are the fruit of a long-term relationship of mutual confidence, and are characterised by intensive scientific activity: conferences, training days, scientific publications and so on.
  • Research Grants, national or international
  • Research Groups. These are led directly by the Foundation together with public or private partners. These think-tanks bring together researchers in a transversal way on a specific research question. In this context, the G-MonD was created at the beginning of 2010 around the questions of globalisation and development.
  • Consultancy Agreements. Around 35 research projects are currently being carried out in partnership with public and private organisations. These fixed-term contracts bring together researchers and PhD students around a specific research question.
  • Seminars. Each research domain is associated with dozens of research meetings over the course of the year. These can be either standard seminars, Guest Lectures, workgroups, lunch seminars, or reading groups.
  • Conferences are regularly held at PSE, welcoming one or dozen of speakers, for 3 hours to 3 days.
