The annual Macroeconomic Risk Chair Junior Research Prize distinguishes outstanding research in the field of macroeconomic risk conducted by a junior economist (or junior economists) less than ten years after the Ph.D via a selection committee headed by Gilles Saint-Paul (PSE-ENS), scientific director of the chair.

Macroeconomic Risk Chair, Junior Research Prize 2021

On March 24, 2022, the Junior Research Prize 2021 was awarded to Edouard Schaal (CREI, ICREA, UPF, BGSE and CEPR) and Mathieu Taschereau-Dumouchel (Cornell University) for their work entitled “Herding Through Booms and Busts” during a conference organised online (Zoom). The award ceremony was followed by the presentation of the awarded paper by their authors.

Edouard Schaal and Mathieu Taschereau-Dumouchel

Edouard Schaal is an ICREA Research Professor at CREI (Centre de Recerca en Economia Internacional), Adjunct Professor at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Associate Research Professor at the Barcelona School of Economics and Research Affiliate at the CEPR. He is currently an editor at the Review of Economic Dynamics, associate editor at the Economic Journal and member of the Editorial Board of the Review of Economic Studies. His main research topics are Macroeconomics, Labor Markets, Search and Matching, Informational Frictions, Business Cycles and Economic Geography.

Mathieu Taschereau-Dumouchel is an Assistant Professor of Economics and Robert Jain Faculty Fellow at the Cornell University. He is also a Faculty Affiliate at the Cornell Center for Social Sciences and at the Center for the Study of Inequality. His main research topics are Macroeconomics, Labor Economics and Networks.
