Prepare yourself for the future!

The MSc EDCBA is an 18 months programme, fully taught in English, which will provide you the different practical tools and methods for projects appraisal notably socio-economic evaluations (or cost-benefit analysis CBA) of investment projects and policies. The purpose of CBA is to give a simple, quantitative approach for deciding whether to go ahead with a project or a policy, based on the collective value that might be generated compared to alternatives.

What is the Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA)?

JPEG - 50.8 kb

CBA is an analytical tool to be used to appraise an investment decision and judge its socio-economic advantages or disadvantages in order to assess the welfare change attributable to it. CBA compares a scenario with-the-project with a counterfactual baseline scenario without-the-project, which is what would happen in the absence of the project or in a business-as-usual situation.

CBA expresses all the cost and benefits of a project or an intervention in monetary value and aims at answering two questions:
1 - Are the benefits of the project for the society higher than the costs and if so, by how much?
2 - Among the solutions considered, which one is the most desirable?
