Iva Trako

I am an Economist at Development Impact Evaluation (DIME) under the Development Economics Vice Presidency (DEC) at the World Bank Group (WBG).

Prior to joining the WBG, I finished a PhD in Economics at the Paris School of Economics. My research interests include gender, education and social protection. One strand of my research studies the role of state capacity to deter and improve justice service delivery in reducing gender-based violence. In particular, I explore whether improving law enforcement responses to gender-based violence increases the reporting and deterrence of violence against women, and whether this policy interventions has an inter-generational impact on the human capital investment of children.

Another strand of my research examines issues on human capital and skills, service delivery, and the impact of policies and programs to improve human development outcomes. In particular, I work on measuring the quality of education systems, with a special focus on early childhood development, the quality of teaching practices, and gender inequality.

Currently, I am also working in partnership with WFP, UNICEF and FAO on understanding how public works and cash transfer programs can be designed to promote women’s empowerment and the resilience of vulnerable rural households in developing and humanitarian settings.
