Eight economists are joining PSE in 2015

Following the recent election of Jean-Pierre Danthine as President of PSE, the foundation now welcomes eight new appointments in teaching-research positions. Seven of these are appointments as Associate Members, in partnership with PSE’s public founders: Carmen Camacho-Perez and Ariell Reshef with CNRS positions, Lorenzo Cassi, Nadia Jacoby, Biagio Speciale and Xavier Venel with University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne positions, and Camille Hémet with a position at the ENS. Philipp Ketz has been recruited directly at PSE as an Assistant Professor.

Carmen CAMACHO-PEREZ

Carmen CAMACHO holds a Ph.D in Economics from l’Université Catholique de Louvain (2007) entitled “Essays on factor mobility and distribution in dynamic general equilibrium models”. She was Post-Doctorate at the Belgian Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique from 2007 to 2011. She has been Chargée de Recherche at the CNRS since 2011. She works on Economic Growth and Environmental Economics, and has written many papers on land-use dynamics, climate policies, carbon treatment, pollution and global warming. She is currently working on illegal immigration, child labor and population distribution.

Lorenzo CASSI

Lorenzo CASSI received his Ph.D in Economics on “Social Networks and Knowledge” from l’Università Politecnica delle Marche in Italy in 2004, followed by Post-Doc positions in 2006 at Università Bocconi and then in 2008 at Université Paris Sud. He has been a Maître de conférences at the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne since 2008. He works on scientific collaboration, inventor networks, patent value, knowledge diffusion and innovation.

Camille HEMET

Camille HEMET graduated in 2009 from the APE Master of PSE (Analysis and Policy in Economics). She then received a Ph.D in Economics from Sciences Po Paris (2012) on “Qui se ressemble ne s’assemble pas toujours. Essais sur les effets socio-économiques de la diversité locale”. After a Post-Doctoral position at the Barcelona Institute of Economics in 2014, she is joining PSE this year as an Associate Member, in partnership with the ENS where she is a Maître de conférences. Her work in Urban Economics relates to the effects of both the diversity of backgrounds within neighborhoods and spatial inequalities on housing conditions, employment and crime.

Nadia JACOBY

After studying at the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies of Pisa in Italy, Nadia Jacoby defended her PhD entitled “L’influence des processus de sélection interne sur les performances des firmes. Un modèle évolutionniste de micro-simulation” in 2002. She has held positions at Paris 1 since 2003. Starting in 2005, she has taken on a variety of administrative responsibilities in the University’s Scientific Council and Board of Directors, of which latter she has been Vice President since 2012. Her research is on Industrial Economics and Dynamics, and in particular firm growth dynamics and investment behavior using individual firm data from the manufacturing industry.

Philipp KETZ

After obtaining a Master of Science in Econometrics and Operations Research from Maastricht University in 2009, Philipp KETZ defended his Ph.D in Economics on "Inference When the True Parameter Vector Is near or at the Boundary of the Parameter Space” at Brown University in 2015. His research interests cover Econometric Theory and Applied Econometrics, and in particular nonstandard testing problems. He is currently working, in line with his Ph.D, on the analysis of distribution functions. He joins PSE this year as an Assistant Professor.

Ariell RESHEF

Ariell RESHEF holds a Master in Economics from Tel Aviv University (2002) and a Ph.D entitled “Technological Change and the Labor Market” from New York University (2008). During his Ph.D he worked as a consultant for the World Bank Institute in Washington DC. He then taught at the University of Virginia as an Associate Professor. He joins the CNRS this year as a Directeur de Recherche. His work is on the intersection of Macroeconomics, International Trade and Labor Economics. He is currently working on the changes in human capital, skills, and wages, as well as the relationship between International Trade and Economic Development.

Biagio SPECIALE

Biagio Speciale has been a Maître de conférences at the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne since 2012. He graduated (M.A.) from the Université Libre de Bruxelles (2003) and received a Ph.D. in Economics in 2007, with a thesis entitled “Essays on the Economics of Education and Migration”. Before joining Paris 1, he held post-doctoral positions at CReAM (UCL) and ECARES. His interests are in the Economics of Migration, Labor and Demographic Economics, Development Economics and Public Economics. He is currently working on the current challenges entailed by globalization - in particular, in the effects of immigrants’ legal status on their consumption behavior. He is also working on the labor-market consequences of the Arab Spring and on women’s labor force participation in the context of political instability.

Xavier VENEL

After a Ph.D on the “Existence de la valeur uniforme dans les jeux répétés” from GREMAQ in Toulouse (2012) and a Post-Doctorate at the School of Mathematical Sciences in Tel Aviv (2014), Xavier Venel joined the University Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne as a Maître de conférences in 2014. His research mainly covers Game theory – and in particular models of dynamic interactions such as stochastic games, repeated games and games in networks.
