The interdisciplinary workshop “Forests and People: A historical perspective on land control, energy sources and fragile ecosystems” aims to bring together different scientific perspectives on forests, from pre-industrial to contemporary times. Economists, political scientists, historians, biologists and foresters will interact around the same forest object to understand how past human activities have modified the forest in the short and long term, to better highlight how ancient uses of the forest continue to shape our contemporary landscapes, and to better project today’s public policies and forest management into a future marked by climate change and increased use of renewable energies. The workshop will be held in French.

This workshop is organized by the Opening Economics Chair with the support of INRAE.
The Opening Economics Chair allows economists to respond in creative and effective ways to the major questions of our times, by integrating two observations: that current challenges, complex and multifaceted as they are, demand an approach that transcends disciplinary boundaries, and that economics research must be renewed by advances made in other related disciplines.
