Daniel S. Hamermesh is an emeritus professor of economics at Royal Holloway University of London, and the University of Texas at Austin. He also taught at Michigan State University, Princeton University and has held visiting professorships at universities in Europe, Asia and Australia. His A.B. is from the University of Chicago (1965), his Ph.D. from Yale (1969). His research, published in over 100 refereed papers in scholarly journals, has concentrated on time use, labor demand, discrimination, academic labor markets and unusual applications of labor economics. His magnum opus, Labor Demand, was published by Princeton University Press in 1993. The same press published his Beauty Pays in 2011. In 2019 Oxford University Press published his Spending Time: The Most Valuable Resource. He has lectured at over 300 universities in 49 states and 37 countries.
