How Origin Country Corruption Shapes Immigrants’ Political Trust
Do immigrants coming from countries with high levels of corruption tend to trust democratic institutions in their host country more or less? This study shows that they trust them… more. Having been exposed to low institutional quality and to pervasive corruption in ones formative years makes you appreciate more, not less, the higher institutional quality experience in the new country of residence. This has important implications for immigration social and political integration.

Trade on the Move How Business Travel Powers Global Trade
The importance of business travel for international trade is often overlooked. In a new research paper entitled “Free Trade Agreements and the Movement of Business People”, we developed a specialized algorithm that combines machine learning and text analysis to examine FTAs to detect the inclusion of provisions to facilitate business travel as part of Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and show that such provisions (and their inclusion in the dispute settlement mechanisms) turns out to foster bilateral trade between the signing countries. This contributes to demonstrate the role of business travel – and beyond, the role of face-to-face interactions – in promoting international trade.
