Recent literature shows that low-skill immigration increase the share of votes for right-wing populist parties. At the same time, right-wing populist parties and leaders, as well as anti-immigration attitudes, tends to deter immigration, but more so for the highly-educated and skills. This creates a dynamic relationship between right-wing populism and the ratio of low- to high-skill immigration which can be characterized as a vicious circle, as explained in this policy brief.
