Abstract

Retirement is about everyone, not just the older ones. With life expectancy and retirement life span increasing, understanding the pension system is necessary. After having made an inventory of the demographic situation of this social category, the author explains the functioning of specific pension systems and returns to the treatment of inequalities. Finally, the question of reforms is raised. How does a points system work? What is the required duration of contributions? What are the consequences of life expectancy inequalities? Is the French pension system financially sustainable? Should it be unified? These are all questions that we ask ourselves and to which this book answers.
