Research chair : Urban New Deal Chair

The Urban New Deal Chair aims at providing decision-making support tools for city stakeholders.

The Urban New Deal Chair was created by the Institut pour la recherche de la Caisse des Dépôts, Enedis, PTV Group, SNCF Réseau and the Paris School of Economics.

Objectives

The Urban New Deal Chair aims to meet the urban climate and energy challenges of the 21st century. It focuses on the digital transformation of cities as a vector for environmental transition and greater social inclusion.

The chair combines academic and operational expertise to optimize the management of urban services. Research focuses on the efficiency of tariff and non-tariff mechanisms in urban mobility and energy.

The Institut pour la recherche de la Caisse des Dépôts supports research projects that fall within the scope of Caisse des Dépôts’ missions and activities. Its role is to encourage research in fields related to the activities of Caisse des Dépôts, on a variety of themes such as savings, long-term finance, the economic development of territories, the energy and ecological transition, the impact of ageing, etc.

Enedis is an independent subsidiary of the EDF Group. A state-owned company, Enedis manages the public electricity distribution network covering 95% of mainland France, and guarantees access to it for electricity suppliers. Created in 2008 under the name ERDF, ENEDIS adopted its current name in 2016, as the contraction between “energy” and “distribution”.

PTV Group provides software solutions and consulting services to improve mobility and transportation for a cleaner, smarter future. Its intelligent traffic management and transportation optimization software enables political, urban, industrial and commercial decision-makers to save time and money, make roads safer and protect the environment.

SNCF Réseau is the infrastructure manager of the national rail network, a public limited company within the SNCF group since 2020. The French State, as the owner of the network, is its sole shareholder. The organization is deeply rooted in local regions while also being firmly oriented towards Europe. To shape the railway landscape, it works closely with numerous stakeholders.
