Although very useful and important, gross domestic product (GDP) is not enough to measure people’s well-being. While reflecting all market transactions, certain welfare externalities are not taken into account in its assessment. In this video, Claudia Senik thus explains how economists measure people’s well-being beyond GDP.

Claudia Senik is professor at the Paris School of Economics and at Sorbonne University. She is director of the Wellness Observatory at the CEPREMAP and member of the Institut universitaire de France (IUF). Her research focuses on the economics of subjective well-being, and in particular on the link between income, growth, inequality and happiness.
