Voting decisions are complex, and the definition of a “good” voting choice is not easy to determine: between 30% and 60% of voters report that they are not fully satisfied with their vote choice in the immediate aftermath of an election*.

Lily Savey identifies several factors that may explain voters’ regret, based on a survey conducted during the 2022 French presidential election.

Lily Savey is a PhD student at the Paris School of Economics and at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. She studies voting behavior using methods from behavioral economics, political science and psychology. More specifically, her research focuses on the distinction between strategic and expressive voting, and on voting regret.
